Raúl Fernández Jódar es doctor en Lingüística por la Universidad Adam Mickiewicz de Poznan, donde en 2006 defendió su tesis doctoral, la cual presentaba una descripción de la interlengua de los aprendices polacos de español. Dicha tesis presentaba cuáles son los elementos de mayor dificultad para los aprendices polacos de español, explicaba las causas de estas dificultades y proponía un orden para una adquisición efectiva de la lengua. Sus principales líneas de investigación se centran en la lingüística contrastiva y en los diferentes niveles de relación entre las lenguas maternas y las lenguas segundas. Es coautor de la primera gramática contrastiva español-polaco.
